Jennifer Greenburg
Jana Ireland
Currently up at Schneider Gallery is the work of Jennifer Greenburg and Janna Ireland. Greenburg utilizes found images of events, portraits, and tourist photographs to design her own past. Part performer, part photographer, Greenburg creates her own personal history through reenactment. Ireland’s work from her most recent series, The Spotless Mirror, subtly examines femininity, the domestic, and the bourgeoisie, while riffing on both 1980s female African-American artists and symbolism from canonical paintings.
The relationship between the two shows is based on the photographer's shared use of self-portraiture. Each body of work has its own aesthetic and political agenda, but their relationship is deepened by the conversation of race between the two.
