Leslie Hewitt
MoCP Lecture

In a new series, "Still Life", Ms. Hewitt has created works that are even more stripped down, but also like Anne Collier, another neo-Pictures artist. In the two on view here, a square maple panel sits on a stack of books on a wood floor. The spine on the top book indicates that it is James Baldwin’s 1963 novel, "The Fire Next Time". Here again, the placid geometry of the photograph is interrupted by its content, which is incendiary.

New York-based artist Leslie Hewitt, known for her still life compositions made from personal, political, and social materials, will be giving a lecture at MoCP on November 7th at 6 PM. Hewitt graduated from the Cooper Union's School of Art in 2000 and went on to earn an MFA from Yale University in 2004.
